Autumnal Game of Thrones Wedding in Sonora, California

Short of the East Coast, I don't think there's any better place to soak in the warmth of the fall season.  Our little hometown of Sonora, California, was the perfect backdrop for Darae + Xaio's autumn wedding...with touches of Game of Thrones.

Darae and the ladies started their morning a quaint Downtown Sonora Airbnb.  It was nestled on an ivy covered hillside and a short drive to Indigeny, where Darae + Xaio would share their First Look.

The vows themselves took place at the Sonora Opera Hall, which was transformed to a scene from Game of Thrones.  Guests were seated according to the banner each family from the show.  The tables glowed with paper lanterns in the silhouettes of dragons and other characters.  Cake pops were in the form of dragon eggs!  The white weirwood tree from the show cast a romantic glow the entire evening.  And in a far corner, a larger than life dragon kept it's perch.

One of my favorite part of Darae + Xaio's wedding day is actually the part that came before, the proposal.  Darae popped the question at Xaio's surprise birthday party. She took him aside and proposed with a custom dog collar. It was engraved with a name they chose for their future dog. She said, “I want to get a dog and start a family with you. Will you marry me?” Xiao said yes

A few months later, Xiao counter-proposed, not with a dainty little ring box, but with “The Whale,” which is actually a blue Honda Accord. Darae said yes. They promised to support each other in their goals, with future plans of Xiao becoming a stay-at-home dad and Darae starting her own business.
